NICOLE BARTELL, TROMBONE 2015 - PRESENT

Nicole Bartell began playing trombone in her fifth grade band in her hometown of Aurora, IL. In high school she earned the opportunity to perform at the Illinois Music Educator’s Association All-State Festival with the Honor Band as a junior and the Honor Orchestra as a senior. During her senior year at West Aurora High School, Nicole also held a position in one of the nation’s premier youth orchestras, the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Allen Tinkham, as well as in one of its chamber ensembles, the Millennium Brass Quintet, coached by Scott Tegge.

After graduating from high school, Nicole began her collegiate career at Michigan State University. She has gained extensive experience performing with a diverse collection of ensembles spanning several genres. Ensembles include MSU’s Concert Band, Symphony Band, Concert Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra, Trombone Choir, and several chamber groups. As a double major in Music and Environmental Studies, Nicole’s coursework is as varied as her performance background. She will continue to study trombone under Professor Ava Ordman of MSU and is appreciative of her other major influence, Reed Capshaw.

Outside of the classroom (and practice room), Nicole works as an enthusiastic, independent private lessons teacher as well as a Stage Manager and Usher for the College of Music’s Event Staff. She also enjoys being a part of MSU’s Dressage Club. Nicole is excited to be the newest member of the quintet and to collaborate with her classmates and friends—The Union Brass!
